Sophomore guard Cordero Holt, 6-feet, 8-inches tall, had a sparkling performance in leading Northern Virginia Community College to a 65-53 win over the Community College of Baltimore County-Catonsville Cardinals on Dec. 8 at Annandale’s Ernst Gym by scoring 25 points, 18 in the second half. Among his points were two three-point field goals, two three-point plays after layups, a dunk and nine free throws.

Tutors offer free one-on-one help for every part of the writing process to students working on writing assignments for any course. Tutors assist with brainstorming topics and ideas, pre-writing, outlining essays, developing thesis statements and supporting body paragraphs, essay organization, transitioning, MLA and APA citations, understanding and applying grammar concepts, revising, editing and proofreading strategies. Also, the center helps with writing assignments in all subjects. So whether a paper is for English or nursing, whether a student is just getting started or almost done, the Annandale Writing Center can help improve the paper, a person’s writing abilities and academic success.

Northern Virginia Community College is offering a new course at the Annandale campus. Introduction to Conservation and Energy Efficiency in Commercial Buildings (EGR 295) is a course that will help students gain hands-on experience with commercial building energy efficiency. The U.S Energy Protection Agency (EPA) designed the course and based it on the approach recommended by ENERGY STAR, the nation’s largest and most recognizable energy efficiency program.

NOVA’s intramural golf tournament, organized by Dr. Muhammed Basit, the Executive Assistant to the Dean of Students at the Annandale campus, took place on Oct. 7 at the Penderbrook Golf Course near Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax, under the auspices of the NOVA Student Activities Office of Brian Anweiler.
