Are you looking for something fun to do over spring break? Do you enjoy experiencing classical music in a live setting? Then come to the NOVA Community Chorus’ performance of Verdi’s Requiem, and experience the full range of emotion that a composer can put forth through the voices of a gifted chorus. If you’ve never heard Verdi’s Requiem, come prepared to be rocked by this masterpiece, as it can go from quite peaceful and subdued to at once intense and thrilling. According to the New York Times, George Bernard Shaw once said that Verdi’s Requiem would be more enduring than any of his own operas.

Environmental Organization Hopes to Inspire

Did you know that 38 percent of all CO2 emissions on earth come from inefficient energy use in buildings? That is just one of several statistics that Alliance for Climate Education will introduce to Northern Virginia Community College students on Feb. 22 at 11 a.m., in the Schlesinger Center on Alexandria campus. In hosting ACE, NOVA will aid the organization in their mission to educate, inspire and activate the younger generation around the issue of climate change.

Living Legends of Alexandria

Guests attend the gallery reception for Living Legends of Alexandria. LLA is an ongoing, not-for-profit photo documentary project to identify, honor and chronicle individuals whose vision and dedication have made a tangible difference in the quality of life in the community. Former NOVA-Alexandria employee Eula Miller was one of them. The project was conceived by photographer Nina Tisara.

Eula Miller: A Life Celebrated

When the people you have met throughout your life gather together to say goodbye, there are a few words you should be honored to hear. Beloved, loyal, respected and missed are just some of them. If you ask those who knew her, those words all applied to Eula M. Miller who was the program head for the Early Childhood Development program at the Alexandria campus of Northern Virginia Community College for 37 years until her retirement in 2010. Miller died of lung cancer Jan. 5.

Music and Gaming Fest to Raise Money for Charity

Music and gaming are arguably two of the most popular pastimes for college students. It only makes sense that an affair bringing both of them together should take place a hop, skip and jump away from a college.

This year’s MAGFest (music and gaming festival) will be held Jan. 13 to 16 at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center on Seminary Road, very close to the Alexandria campus of Northern Virginia Community College.

You’ve probably visited the library on your campus. NOVA’s libraries have resources to help students succeed in research, to study, work on group projects and more. Studies show that students who make use of their campus libraries get better grades, are more likely to graduate and have better love lives (well, maybe not the last one – but you never know what could happen).
