Manassas Brings on New Faculty
Four people joined the faculty at the Manassas campus of Northern Virginia Community College at the start of the fall 2013 semester.
Vashti Carisa Bryant is an assistant professor of biotechnology and biology. She gained teaching experience at the University of the District of Columbia Community College, and has worked as an associate scientist at Kemp Biotechnologies Inc. and Life Technologies Inc. She holds a doctorate from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and was a postdoctoral research fellow at Georgetown University Medical Center’s Lombardi Cancer Center. Bryant lives in Washington, D.C.
Cathleen H. Cogdill, professor of business management, comes to the Manassas Campus after eight years at NOVA’s Woodbridge Campus. Prior to NOVA, she gained nearly two decades of marketing communications experience in the public and private sectors. She holds an MBA from Virginia Tech and is currently a doctoral candidate at George Mason University where her dissertation research is focused on remediation rates in community colleges. She lives in Fauquier County with her husband and two children.
Jeremiah Donovan is an assistant professor of communication and English. He earned a doctorate in communication and culture at Indiana University and a master’s degree in English at the University of Tennessee. He brings teaching experience gained while a graduate student and as an instructor at the University of Tennessee. Donovan lives in Haymarket.
Rizza Hansen, assistant professor of mathematics, brings considerable teaching experience at the college and secondary levels. From 2004 to 2012, she was a teacher for Loudoun County Public Schools and she has also taught as an adjunct at both NOVA and Lord Fairfax Community College. She holds a master’s degree in mathematics from De La Salle University and is currently pursuing an advanced studies certificate in federal statistics at George Mason University. She lives in Marshall, Va., with her husband, Richard.
