Paintings by Rosemary Gallick will be on display from Jan. 24 until Feb. 28 at Northern Virginia Community College’s Woodbridge campus. The exhibition in the fourth-floor gallery will feature African-American celebrities and political figures in honor of Black History Month. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays. Admission is free.

“We will kick off the exhibition early to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr.,” Gallick said. “Featured portraits include [King] himself, President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama, as well as other African-American celebrities who have contributed to American culture.”

Several musicians, such as Fats Domino, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, B.B. King and Tina Turner, will also be represented.

“Each portrait attempts to reveal the essence of the icon’s personality and character,” Gallick said. “Some of the faces reveal a calm, somber exterior while others display a vibrancy and dynamism.”

Gallick’s artwork has been exhibited extensively throughout the United States. She has also published numerous articles and given many presentations on art and popular culture. Gallick lives in Centreville and teaches art history at NOVA’s Woodbridge campus.
