I-95 Express Lanes Gate Testing to Take Place This Weekend
Gates will Open and Close for Mock Operations and Sign Testing
Weather permitting, the Virginia Department of Transportation will close the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes on I-395/95 from the Washington, D.C., line to the end at Dumfries Road (Route 234), beginning at 11 p.m. Friday night, Nov. 7, through 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, for construction and testing. The HOV lanes will reopen to traffic heading in the northbound direction for rush hour by 5 a.m. Monday morning.
In addition to scheduled construction, the 95 Express Lanes project will run system testing of all the entry and exit gates and overhead signage along the project corridor on Saturday and Sunday.
The testing will result in the gates opening and closing throughout the weekend. Virginia State Police and highway safety trucks will be stationed at several entry ramps to ensure drivers do not access the closed HOV lanes.
The 95 Express Lanes are on schedule to open in December. Now is the time for motorists to get an EZ-Pass. All drivers will need an E-ZPass to use the Express Lanes. Those looking to take advantage of the HOV 3+ and travel the lanes for free will need to have an E-ZPass Flex.
E-ZPass and E-ZPass Flex are available at 75 convenient Northern Virginia retail locations including Wegmans, select Virginia DMVs and Giant Food Stores or at one of the E-ZPass Customer Service Centers; online or by calling Virginia E-ZPass at (877) 762-7824.
Drivers will be directed to use the general purpose lanes during this weekend’s HOV closures.
