Manassas Students Adopt Stream
A student club at the Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College has adopted a stream located on and around the campus.
Students for Environmental Awareness (SEA) adopted Holkum’s Branch, part of the Bull Run/Potomac Watershed. They have agreed to clean the stream and report their findings to the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation.
“We are concerned that the stream is not flowing the way it used to. Many trees have fallen, creating dams that block the natural flow of water and collect debris, leaves and garbage,” said SEA President Tina Dolan.
Club members have already collected and removed several large bags of debris and plan to continue their efforts.
“We will clean the stream many times each semester,” Dolan said. “We love being in the woods around the creek and sometimes do not want to stop.”
Anyone who wants to help may contact Dolan at tmd2587@email.vccs.edu for future cleanup dates.
