Former NOVA Student Raising Money to Produce Animated Short
Arlington native and former Northern Virginia Community College student Callison Slater has started a fundraising campaign for his new animated film, titled Pixey. It is a film about a man who is arrested for marijuana possession and is sentenced to a futuristic treatment. Things go horribly wrong when it becomes apparent that the treatment is a far more powerful addiction than anything he’s ever known.
Featured in the film will be Brizzy Voices, a popular YouTube actress, as the voice of every character. It will be scored by Clemens Wijers, composer and keyboardist for the Dutch band Carach Angren. The six minutes of animation will be a collaboration between 3D and 2D animators from Singapore and Italy. The team has already put together a fundraising trailer that is available for viewing on their Indiegogo page.
“What we’ve put together in the trailer is a good example of what we could each bring to this film,” said Slater. “And I look forward to working with this team on the final film.”
The team is seeking funding through February. Donations include perks such as copies of the film, posters, personal thank you videos and Executive Producer credits.
“When this film is made, I am sure that contributors who get a copy of the film will be glad they donated. Small donations like that make or break campaigns, so they will be vital,” stated Slater.
Written by String Studios Productions’ lead writer, Joshua Norton II and storyboarded by Slater, who thought up the idea two years ago.
“Back in 2010, I got hit over the head with this vision and starting this campaign is my way of finally moving forward with the idea,” Slater added. “We’ve made a fraction of what we need at this point, and need the donations to continue. But come what may at the end of this fundraiser, this film will get made. It is a dream of mine that is still going strong.”
