As part of NOVA Police Department’s continuing efforts to ensure safety and security on the campuses of Northern Virginia Community College, a women’s self-defense training class will be offered to the NOVA community and their female family members free of charge.

The next class will be held at the Alexandria campus in the Tyler Building gym on Saturdays March 24 and 31 from 8 a.m. until noon. Students need to attend both days in order to complete the training.

The class is called Sexual Assault Free & Empowered or SAFE. This self-defense course is dedicated to empowering women with knowledge on how to reduce the occurrence of sexual assault crimes. The program provides effective options by teaching women to take an active and positive role in their own self defense and psychological well-being.
The training consists of both a classroom lecture and hands-on practice.

Registration has already started. Those interested should contact the NOVA Police Community Outreach Officer Tony Ong for more details at TOng@nvcc.edu.
