Virginia Senator Creigh Deeds will appear at a public hearing at George Mason University’s Fairfax campus on Friday, Jan. 6. The hearing will begin at 10 a.m. in the Johnson Center’s Dewberry Hall.

According to an e-mail from the senator’s office, Deeds’ focus will be on Gov. Bob McDonnell’s budget plan, which was released in December.

“One of the most contentious actions taken by the governor is his plan to increase the amount of sales tax revenues that are steered to transportation,” said the e-mail. “I have argued for years for additional revenues to fund critical transportation needs throughout the Commonwealth, however, dipping into the general fund at the expense of other core government services is not the answer.”
