There is a standoff with an armed man in an apartment building on South George Mason Drive near the Alexandria campus of Northern Virginia Community College, according to Fairfax County Police. The information was also confirmed by NOVA’s own police department.

All classes and activities at that campus have been canceled.

Police ask that anyone on campus remain inside and away from windows.

UPDATE: According to a source who lives nearby, the suspect is in Skyline Plaza. This has not been confirmed.

UPDATE: NOVA Alert reports at 10 p.m., that the incident is over and people on campus may retrieve their vehicles.

The first NOVA Alert text message about the incident went out at 5:30 p.m.
