Volunteers Needed for Civil War Events
Press Release
Discover Prince William & Manassas (formerly the Prince William Manassas Convention and Visitors Bureau) is calling on area residents and businesses to be a part of history for the 150th Anniversary Commemorating the Battle of First Manassas/Bull Run July 21 through 24.
Volunteers and sponsors are needed for more than a dozen events across Prince William County over the long weekend including a major reenactment of the Battle of First Manassas/Bull Run, concerts, lectures, films and living history displays.
“We have invited the world to discover Prince William & Manassas at this commemoration,” said Ann Marie Maher, Executive Director of the destination marketing organization. “We want to welcome our visitors with warmth and hospitality and ensure their visit is engaging and entertaining. Each of our residents and businesses can participate as either a volunteer or a sponsor and be an extraordinary ambassador for our destination.”
Volunteers are needed for a number of functions including:
· greeting guests,
· distributing event programs,
· taking tickets,
· parking,
· assisting with re-enactor check-in,
· assisting vendors,
· providing directions to spectators, and
· administrative functions before the events.
Family and community groups are encouraged to volunteer together. While most volunteer positions involve a minimum commitment of one day, residents with even just a few hours to spare will be welcomed to the team.
Those who know the community particularly well are encouraged to volunteer at one of the three visitors’ centers and special parking areas. Their inside knowledge will be called on to direct visitors to other events, attractions, restaurants, and shopping within the city and county.
All residents are called upon to be ambassadors, improving their experience in Prince William County. “Your role could be as simple and as critical as thanking visitors for coming and providing directions or recommendations,” said Maher.
