Tribute to American Women Artwork Displayed at Woodbridge
Portraits of prominent American women painted by Rosemary Gallick will be on display at Northern Virginia Community College’s Woodbridge campus from March 7 to April 5 to commemorate Women’s History Month.
The fourth-floor gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays. Admission is free.
“Tribute to American Women” includes a wide range of women painted in acrylics with touches of mixed media for special effects. The all-star cast includes Lady Gaga, Janis Joplin, Gracie Slick, Madonna, Cher, Blondie, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Patsy Cline, Marilyn Monroe, Barbara Streisand and Bette Midler. In addition to the performing artists, portraits of first lady Michelle Obama and Justice Ruth Ginsburg are also featured.
“The show emphasizes the serious, the sublime and the outrageous,” Gallick said. “From the solemn burgundy backdrop in the Justice Ginsburg painting, the show shifts gears to the theatrical antics of a mixed media Lady Gaga. The bright colors and vivid personalities will delight the viewer.”
Gallick lives in Centreville and teaches art history at NOVA. The Woodbridge campus is located just off Interstate 95 at exit 156.
