McDonnell Defeats Deeds in Landslide 20 Point Victory
The polls were open first thing the morning of Nov. 3 at 6 a.m. The race for Virginia’s governor was between Robert “Bob” McDonnell of the Republican Party and R. Creigh Deeds of the Democratic Party. According to a recent survey by Public Policy Polling, McDonnell was favored to win with Deeds trailing by 12 points. However, the Republican Party still urged people to go out and vote, disregarding what had been reported.
Will Chan, a Fairfax County resident, said, “You must go out and vote. This is your duty and right. Until the last vote is counted, you can’t be sure who will win.”
In the end, McDonnell won the race to become the Commonwealth’s next governor.
Virginia has been governed as a democratic state for the past eight years. A win for the former state attorney general has raised hope for the Republican Party. And conditions seem rough for Democrats in Virginia, according to Los Angeles Times reporter Peter Nicholas in a recent article. As a result, reported FoxNews.com, Obama and top Democrats reached a point where they decided not to spend much more energy on the Virginia race and instead focused on defending New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine from Republican challenger Chris Christie.
