A gray sky, accompanied with a cool breeze and a gentle drizzle, was not able to dim the overflowing fervor and euphoria displayed by the student population at Alexandria’s NOVA Day. Representatives of student organizations and clubs enthusiastically informed eager students about their activities and mission. Students gingerly migrated from table to table, attentively surveying each one to find activities that fit their interests or presentations that ignited their curiosity. A symphony of jubilant voices and laughter harmoniously came together to create a sense of controlled chaos.

Marielle Tromp, a first-year student, was “excited and happy” to find out about NOVA’s women’s volleyball team and hopes to be part of it in the near future. Many other first-year students also encountered clubs that appealed to their interests, and many discovered new opportunities to get involved in the Alexandria campus.

NOVA Day was not limited to club recruitment. A vast range of activities were available for the enjoyment of the student population.

Frayne Gantus, another first-year student, loved the rock climbing and volleyball and praised NOVA Day. “It was really fun and people did a really good job organizing the different activities,” she said.

There was a general positive impression among students such as Hunter Forte, a second-year student, who was pleased with the whole event. “I love the people, the atmosphere and especially the free food… My only complaint is that [there] was not enough of it!”

Nicky Nguyen, a student in her first semester, appreciated “the carefree attitude” that many of the students displayed at the event.

NOVA Day “brings people together and it is a great opportunity to meet new people,” said Nazim Ali, who is in her second year.

NOVA Day did not benefit from sunshine, but the unfavorable conditions did not stop students from enjoying themselves and having a pleasant time. In the late afternoon, the deafening voices and laughter faded away. Students slowly began to leave for classes. Their three hours of leisure was over, as was NOVA Day.
