A retelling of the classic Shakespearean story of Romeo and Juliet, Gnomeo and Juliet takes the tail of the feuding Capulets and Montagues into the back yard and recasts the principal characters as an assortment of ceramic garden gnomes. Much like Toy Story, the gnomes appear to be simple inanimate objects when viewed by humans, but when the humans are gone, they come to life and attend to their respective gardens.

In 2001, MAGFest was billed as primarily a music-centric convention intended to promote smalltime bands and, hopefully, breakouts. In recent years, the focus has changed in encompass entertainment in general, with a variety of panels and topics ranging from music genres to collecting and trading comics to the history of video games.

We recently had a record breaking sale of a comic for $1.5 million.
It’s hard to hear a line like that at a comic convention and not be interested in the convention. VA Comicon was held in Richmond, the weekend of Nov. 20 and 21. Drawing dealers from across the region, artists from all over the industry and collectors from across the continent, the event itself was a mixture of sales, fans and education.

Normally I write gaming articles, but I’ve decided to branch out this time and write something different. Halloween is now behind us and, with Thanksgiving on the horizon, many of us will be heading to the stores, intent on acquiring presents for the upcoming holiday season. As we embark on our journey down through the danger-filled dungeons of the department stores and set out on the tattered trail of televised toy technologies, many of us go forth armed with the belief that the customer is always right.
