Magic: The Gathering card game witnessed a change in its standard, the likes of which have rarely been seen, on Oct. 1. The new expansion, titled Scars of Mirrodin, was released rotating the Shards of Alara block out of standard and changing the face of the game as players knew it. Not only was the popular archetype Jund, which at its prime was played by no less than 40 percent of all players in every major event worldwide, thrown to the wind but the classic archetype of Blue-White Control was given even more power and has been seeing Top 8 placements in every event since Scars came out.

My subject stood at 5 feet 4 inches but was currently crouched over his latest prey. In his life, his name was Jeremy Ficklestein. What starts out as a therapeutic retreat for an at-risk friend ends up being a crazy trip down memory lane for three middle-aged men and an adventure for one barely-legal boy. Lou (Rob Coddry) finds himself plagued by the same belligerent ski patrolman as 20 years before. Adam (John Cusack) meets the love of his life, a woman he never got over. Nick (Craig Robinson) wrestles with the prospect of cheating on his wife. And Adam’s nephew, Jacob (Clark Duke), gets to experience the 1980s for the first time.

Everyone has dreams of fame and fortune. At one point or another, many believe that they have what it takes to perform for thousands of screaming fans. Hundreds of NOVA students have received this opportunity. NOVA Idol has been letting NOVA students have their 15 minutes of fame for several years. This year’s NOVA Idol was described by many as the best so far.

Annandale campus boasts a very special inhabitant; however, Gerald Boyd, Dean of Languages and Literature, has a talent which makes him very popular in the office. He is a professional cook.

We’ve all seen the hit television series American Idol. Now NOVA has its own iteration of the show, NOVA Idol.
Dozens of students auditioned, performed, and were sent home, until only the finalists remained. At 7 p.m. on March 26 the finals will be held at Schlesinger Hall at the Alexandria campus. Eight students with great talent will compete to hold the title of NOVA Idol, as well as cash prizes for third place, second place and the Idol.

There I sat, my face covered in goop, my hair wadded up in a rubber bald cap and my chest covered in a barber’s drape. No, this wasn’t the result of a wild night out gone horribly awry, but art in progress. Lifecasting is an art form. It is also a lot of fun. The premise is simple: take a mold of someone’s face, hand or other body part using a substance called alginate, pour some plaster into the mold, and voilà! You have art!
