Lane closures will exist until the morning of Aug. 11.

It was around 1 a.m., and someone appeared to be going for a joy ride. Then there was a tremendous noise.

Bridge demolition is scheduled to start on an old southwest ramp over the Capital Beltway’s Inner Loop/ I-495 west-north at the Springfield Interchange, on or about March 12. A full closure of the Inner Loop/I-495 west-north at I-395 will be put into place during demolition.

Occoquan officials on Tuesday are expected to weigh their legal options in the fight against a development slated to be built just outside town limits.

This project will allow George Mason University traffic to have a dedicated entry point into the Fairfax campus, away from the congested Rt. 123/Braddock Road intersection.

Anyone who has ever driven in the Occoquan area of Woodbridge may recall less than fond memories of massive gridlock and a sometimes tortuous daily commute. This rise in traffic issues has called for an expansion of U.S. 1 by the Virginia Department of Transportation, which has plans to raise the street level and add on-ramps in place of ordinary intersection turns.

A meeting was held March 24 to showcase the current plans for the project and allow residents to voice their concerns about the coming changes. The meeting, attended by over 100 people, started with a question and answer period, followed by a formal presentation given by those involved with the project.

Road damage along East Campus Drive at the Alexandria campus will be repaired next week resulting in parking lot closures and bus detours until June 3 at the earliest. In addition East Campus Drive is closed to automobile traffic.

During the repairs Metrobus routes 25A, 25B and DASH Bus AT-6 will not pick up passengers along East Campus Drive, including the stops at Dawes Avenue and Beauregard Street. According to an email sent to students, signs will be posted at the affected bus stops. Normal bus service will resume when East Campus Drive is reopened.
