These Boots Were Made For Walking

9 November 2010 No Comment

Boots have always been a staple for the fall and winter wardrobe, but this season they are back with a vengeance, making their style statement more prevalent than ever. While for the past few seasons we’ve seen the surge of the Ugg brand’s pull-on suede and wool numbers, this trend is slowly fading, and rougher, edgier styles have hit top priority in the market.

Boots can either be a simple and chic add-on to pull together a look, or they can be a serious style investment that pulls together your aesthetic. Whatever your preference may be, here are some tips on how to find your boots that were made for walking.

Keeping a price range in mind is important before even stepping foot into a store. Nothing is worse than blowing your budget on an item that will only be worn half of the year. Buying quality and well-constructed boots is definitely a must for repeated wear, but be realistic with what you and your bank balance can afford.

Research before you buy. With the advent of online retailers, such as ASOS.com and Zappos.com, more and more women are finding hot items for a steal, and all it takes is a little time and searching. Have a favorite store in mind? Look up their assortments online and see if they have the styles you would like as well as any current coupons.

Be prepared to try them on. Boots are being worn over tucked-in denim this fall season. You don’t want to find your perfect pair of boots and then not be able to confidently try them on due to a flared pant or other wardrobe complication. Once again, planning ahead is essential, so aim for a skinny-legged pant or legging before hitting the shoe store.

Knowing what’s currently in style will also aid your quest, and there is a focus on large variety in the shoe department this fall. There are the ankle-skimming styles with a laid back Western feel (best worn slightly below the ankle with a cropped or boot cut jean), as well as the knee-high leather boot and every length in between. Studs, straps and rocker and edgy details rule the style corner this season, so finding a boot with some punk rocker inflection will put you en pointe with the trends.

Overall, the biggest tip one can internalize before going shopping for any piece this fall is: be you. A style may be hot for a season, but you’re the one who’s going to have to love it well after the trend is over and the credit card statement is paid for. Wearing something that’s trendy but looks ridiculous on your figure or shape will do you no favors — and that’s a promise.
