What to Buy at Borders Store Closing

Gregg Allman recently released his first studio album in 14 years, and it’ll be the last sold at Borders Books and Music in North Stafford.
After the company announced last week it was closing 30 percent of its stores nationwide, the location at Stafford Marketplace has marked down all of its merchandise by up to 40 percent.

Man’s body found in woods near Woodbridge campus

A man was found dead Wednesday morning in Dale City.

The body of 60-year-old George Dwight Doughty was found at a homeless encampment behind Ashdale Plaza on Dale Boulevard.

Police said his death appears to be medical-related, but had no further information.

In Wake of Shooting, NOVA Undergoes Security Review

Northern Virginia Community College students probably won’t see metal detectors installed anytime soon, but college officials are re-assessing security following a December shooting at the Woodbridge campus.

The college recently launched its Presidential Commission on Safety and Security and gave it until April 30 to review the adequacy of emergency resources put in place following the 2007 Virginia Tech massacre—the worst school shooting in the nation’s history.

Lamont Johnson said more parking meters at Northern Virginia Community College’s Woodbridge campus would make his life easier.

The 19-year-old, in his first semester of college, said the lack of metered parking on campus makes him late to class. “Most of the time I am rushing into class and am made late because I can’t find an open parking space with a meter,” said Johnson.

NVCC Shooter’s Rifle Jams After Shots Fired at Instructor

The weapon used by a Woodbridge college student now charged with the attempted murder of his math instructor jammed on him, preventing him from firing a third round from his high-powered rifle.

Jason M. Hamilton, 20, was unable to continue shooting at instructor Tatyana Kravchuk, who ducked behind a desk and was not hit, Prince William County police Maj. Ray Colgan said. No one was injured.
