Students Help Area Seniors

Each year for the past three years, NOVA has teamed up with Home Instead Senior Care to bring warmth and joy to financially challenged and lonely seniors in the Prince William County area. Students, faculty and staff participate by stopping by the Christmas tree at the Howsman Building or the wreath at Innovation Park at the Manassas campus, picking up an ornament with a preferred gift listed by a senior, purchase the gift, and then returning it to the Provost’s office of the campus.
This year so far 75 gifts …

Technology Addiction Takes Hold of Americans

Many of us touch upon at least one piece of technology per day, and in this fast-paced, high tech world we live in, it’s an inevitable foundation in our lives. Normally I write gaming articles, but I’ve decided to branch out this time and write something different. Halloween is now behind us and, with Thanksgiving on the horizon, many of us will be heading to the stores, intent on acquiring presents for the upcoming holiday season. As we embark on our journey down through the danger-filled dungeons of the department stores and set out on the tattered trail of televised toy technologies, many of us go forth armed with the belief that the customer is always right. But what does this actually mean?

Redskins Cheerleaders Cheer for Woodbridge Campus

Before they had even walked into the campus atrium, a long line had formed. Students, mostly men, waited patiently but excitedly to meet five of the beautiful and peppy Washington Redskins cheerleaders on Nov. 2. Their presence on the Woodbridge campus was thanks to Phi Theta Kappa’s Football Day event.

The Northern Virginia Community College men’s soccer team won its final game at Lord Fairfax Community College in Winchester on Oct. 22, with a score of 5-2.
Coach Brian Robertson’s team had a rocky start, losing its first three games, but then won five in a row, then losing to powerful Howard Community College, and finally winning its final game for a fine 6-4 season record, which included two postponements.
Perhaps a measure of its progression is indicated by its having lost to Hagerstown Community …

Rally to Restore Sanity Gave Hope

The feeling of excitement and political opinion was tangible on Oct. 30 as the crowds gathered on the National Mall for the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear in Washington, D.C. The rally, hosted by Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert from the Comedy Central network, was a call for the restoration of common sense in government, as well as a way for average, hard working Americans to come together to express their political ideals. It also served as a jilt to the more controversial rallies held in the recent months.

With NOVA’s soccer and volleyball teams having finished their seasons and the ice hockey team continuing its season, the NOVA basketball teams swung into action on the evening of Nov. 3.

Boots have always been a staple for the fall and winter wardrobe, but this season they are back with a vengeance, making their style statement more prevalent than ever. While for the past few seasons we’ve seen the surge of the Ugg brand’s pull-on suede and wool numbers, this trend is slowly fading, and rougher, edgier styles have hit top priority in the market.
